Tibetan Language Courses starting February 2024

Nima Bhuti
Nima Bhuti was born in Bhutan, where she completed her primary education. She completed her secondary and high school education at the Central School for Tibetan in India. She then studied Tibetan Buddhism, grammar, history and poetry for two years at the Norbuling Higher Tibetan Studies and Higher Tibetan Studies at Sarah College. Ms. Bhuti is certified in Teaching Tibetan as a Second Language, and received the Best Teacher of the Year Certificate in 2017. She taught Tibetan online at Esukhia from 2013 to 2019, and has continued to teach since then independently and with Nitartha Institute.
LAN 500 Beginning Colloquial Tibetan (Continued)
We will finish the Book (A Textbook for Beginners) which was written by Nima Bhuti.
Students should know:
1. How to spell out words.
2. How to read words and short sentences with proper pronunciation.
3. Some simple words.
PREREQUISITE:
This is a continuing course from the 2023 fall semester. You are welcome to take this course if you have not taken the previous ones, but please contact Nima Bhuti at nbhuti.tibetanlesson1@gmail.com if you have questions about your level.

LAN 510 Intermediate Colloquial Tibetan (continued)
Students should know:
- What the essential and existential verbs are and how they are used (ཡིན། རེད། ཡོད། འདུག ཡོད་རེད།and it's negations)
- Demonstrative pronouns (འདི། དེ། ཕ་གི། ཡ་གི། མ་གི།and it's plural))
- Personal pronouns (ང་། ཁྱེད་རང་། ཁོང་།and it's plural)
- Volitional and non-volitional verbs
- Transitive and intransitive verbs
- Verb tenses (past, present, and future) and it's auxiliary verbs
- Basics grammar particles: e.g., locative, genitive, and instrumental cases.
- Some understanding of the difference between honorific and non-honorific terms and when to use them
- How to read somewhat more complex Tibetan sentences aloud (but not necessarily understand their entire meaning)
