Join us for Tibetan Language Classes at the Summer Institute 2018
We are happy to announce that we will again offer Tibetan language classes at the Summer Institute 2018!
The Introduction to Tibetan class is oriented toward beginners who have little knowledge of Tibetan butwould like to gain some familiarity with the language and how it is translated into English. You will learn the alphabet and pronunciation and learn some songs of Milarepa and how to chant them, while at the same time investigate their meaning in both Tibetan and in English. You will gain a richer understanding of the songs composed by one of Tibet’s great masters.
The Tibetan Reading Class is for students who know the Tibetan alphabet and have a basic grasp of Tibetan grammar. You will read sections from various texts within the Nyingma tradition, such as Lama Mipham’s Lamp of Certainty (nges shes ‘gron me) or the Testament of Padma (padma bka’ thang) and possibly from the text used for Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche’s main daily lectures at the Institute; interesting and important grammatical points will be explained in the context of specific passages.
Both classes are held by professional and experienced Tibetan translators: Gerry Wiener and Mark Seibold.
