Seeking Executive Director for Nitartha Institute


The Opportunity

Nitartha Institute seeks a part-time mission-driven leader to serve as Executive Director. Reporting to the Executive Committee, this role carries responsibilities for advancing the Institute’s mission, ensuring continued financial health, and cultivating operational excellence across all programs and departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead collaborative strategic planning and implementation in alignment with the vision of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche and Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen

  • Organizational Management: Oversee CFO, Program Operations, Technology, Marketing, Fundraising, and Publications

  • Financial Stewardship: Oversee development and management of budgets, support fundraising, and ensure fiscal accountability and growth
  • Program Excellence: Support the Summer Institute, semester courses, and translation projects in partnership with academic leadership

  • Team Development: Build a strong, mission-aligned team; hire and develop staff; model Buddhist principles in organizational culture

  • Operational Excellence: Ensure effective systems, policies, and cross-departmental collaboration of 100% remote staff

Ideal Candidate

  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience in a nonprofit or educational setting

  • Strong financial management and organizational development skills

  • Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills across diverse teams
  • Deep familiarity with and commitment to Buddhist teachings, practices, and values

  • Experience supporting or working within academic and/or contemplative institutions

  • Ability to model collaborative leadership and advance a shared mission

  • An established connection to the Nitartha and/or Nalandabodhi mandalas

Up to 20 hours per week, 100% remote except during the
Summer Institute | $25,000-$30,000 USD annually
